A. C. Eddie Large, age 87, left his earthly home Wednesday, January 19, 2011 to live forever in his heavenly home with Jesus.
Eddie was born September 16, 1923 in Leakey, Texas. He was one of twelve children born to Paul Bentley and Alice Shackleford Large.
During World War II Eddie proudly served in the United States Army. After his discharge he began working in the oilfield. He was a roughneck, drilling and tool pusher. He worked for Gardner Brothers Drilling Company. He retired from Santa Fe Drilling in October 1985, after suffering a stroke.
Eddie married Mattie Jean Brown, September 30, 1948, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Together they had two children, Robert Randall and Sharmin Lynette.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents five brothers, Carl, Robert Oscar, Ronald, Homer and Glen three sisters, Lois, Dimple and Avis and his precious son, Robert Randall.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Jean daughter, Sharmin Lynette Abbott and grandson that he loved being PaPa to, Robert Randall Abbott, all of Odessa three sisters, Gertrude Smith, of Portland, Oregon, Grace Kennedy, of Glenwood, Arkansas, and Eunice Machann and husband Jimmy, of San Angelo, Texas sisterinlaw, Gertrude Staggs, of Justin, Texas and many nieces and nephews that Eddie loved dearly.
Visitation with the family will be 68 PM Friday, January 21, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Westwood Baptist Church with Weeks DuBose officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
