Adela Larrea Vasquez was born in Odessa, Texas on May 11, 1949, and received her heavenly wings on Monday, January 3, 2022.
She lived most of her years in Odessa, Texas. On August 10, 1968, she married the love of her life, Gilbert Vasquez in Alice, Texas. She leaves behind her beloved mother, Aurora Larrea; beloved husband, Gilbert; daughter, Monica Vasquez Tschauner (Chris Tschauner); son, Patrick Vasquez (Joanna Aynesworth-Vasquez); sister, MaryAnn Larrea McCoy (Judge Bill McCoy); brothers, Faustino (F.B.) Larrea, and Danny Larrea Norton (Sabra).
Adela is preceded in death by her father, Faustino P. Larrea; father-in-law, Santos Vasquez; mother-in-law, Lucila Vasquez; nephew, Nathan Dean Davis; and countless aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is survived by granddaughters, Lindsey Tschauner, and Genevieve Vasquez; grandsons, Christian Tschauner II, and Cade Tschauner; nieces, Allison Peters, Bria Larrea, and Amanda Norton; and nephew, Skylar Norton.
Adela attended public schools in Odessa having graduated from Ector High School in 1967. She was a proud EAGLE! Adela began her higher education journey at Odessa College in 1967 having received an associate degree in 1969. She was a proud WRANGLER! She continued higher education at Texas Tech University having received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1972 and a master’s degree in Guidance & Counseling in 1975. She was a diehard RED RAIDER through and through. She also attended Sul Ross University and earned a Mid-Management Degree from that institution of higher learning. She retired from the Texas Retirement System after forty-four years of public education and service to students. Adela was known for her servant’s heart! Her passion for students in ECISD was evident through her tireless work of helping them through life’s many struggles. She continued this advocacy as a Home Study Evaluator for the Adoption of Children through the 446th Judicial District Court of Ector County as well as other Judicial District Courts in the Permian Basin. She was also passionate about her four grandchildren. Her name known to them and to others was “WADA”! She was strong, wise, and loved to be silly! Adela was free entertainment to anyone sitting around her at sporting events! She was loved by many and will be eternally missed.

Visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, January 7, from 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM. A Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann-Seton Catholic Church on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 10:00 AM.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Christian Lee Tschauner, Christian Lee Tschauner ll, Cade Tschauner, Faustino Larrea, Danny Larrea Norton, and Victor Vasquez.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Johnston, Jacob Watkins, Richard Herrera, Pete Arenivas, Paul Crow, Tom Glasman, and Ricky Truelock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials honoring Adela may be given to WEST TEXAS GIFTS OF HOPE and to ST. JUDE’S CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. The family wishes to extend a sincere thanks to the staffs at Medical Center Hospital, Texas Oncology and Hospice of Odessa.
