Alfredo Al Perales, 75, of Odessa, died Thursday March 18, 2010 at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born March 9, 1935 in Brownsville, Texas to Consuelo and Alfonso Perales. Mr. Perales was a veteran of the United States Air Force. After his discharge he moved to Fort Worth where he met and married his wife of 53 years, Henrietta Vasquez, on March 6, 1957. They moved to Odessa in 1957, where he worked as a Merchandiser. While working as a Merchandiser for Schinley Industries of New York, he achieved several national awards and recognitions for his marketing work. His creativity and eye for highlighting the strength of a brand gave him the ability to create unique displays throughout his career.
Als favorite hobby was carpentry. His significant accomplishment while using that hobby was building two beautiful homes, one of which he lived in. Al was also an accomplished chef. He loved to cook and bake, talents he learned from his family as he grew up in Brownsville. Although Al was not a graduate scholar, he was an inspiration to his grandchildren who went on to achieve various undergraduate degrees from UTPB, Texas AM, and Texas Tech.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Alfonso, and his sister Connie.
Survivors include his wife Henrietta Perales of Odessa daughters Mary Carmen Olivas and husband Manuel of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Helen Marie Morales and husband Jesse of Springtown, Texas sons Eddie Perales and his wife Cindy of Odessa, and Freddie Perales of Odessa grandchildren Paul Perales and his wife Traci, Michael Perales and his wife Ashley, Sarah Sanchez and her husband Alex, Melissa Martinez and her husband Albert, Meagan and her fianc William Cummins, Michelle Rene Olivas, Manuel Ray Olivas, Mark Perales, and Samantha Perales and greatgrandchildren Joseph Sanchez and Cailyn Bree Martinez.
Visitation will be held 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Chapel. Rosary will be 7:00 PM Monday, March 22, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at St. Anthonys Catholic Church with Father Joseph Uecker officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
