Alice Callendar

March 6, 1939 — September 25, 2010

One of the Lords angels has made her way home. Alice Katherine Callendar, age 71, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas, after a lengthy illness.

She was born March 6, 1939, in Lake Arthur, New Mexico, to Charley and Bertha Cook. She married Wayne Callendar January 8, 1956, in Plainview, Texas.

She worked in the sporting goods department for both Gibsons and KMart for a total of almost 25 years, and she retired in 2003 to help take care of her twin greatgranddaughters.

She had many hobbies in her life including quilting, crocheting, reading, watching NASCAR and the Dallas Cowboys. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents her younger sister, and one greatgranddaughter.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Perry and husband Russell Perry of Odessa, Curtis Callendar of Odessa, Bill Callendar and wife Tina Callendar of Carlsbad, New Mexico granddaughters, Amy Troutz and husband Rusty Troutz of Odessa, Tammy Irvine and husband Jeremy Irvine of Odessa grandsons, Jeremy Perry and wife Tana Perry of Midland, Texas, Christopher Callendar and wife Nancy Callendar of Odessa, John Callendar and wife Courtney Callendar of Odessa, Curtis Wayne Callendar of Odessa and Austin Callendar of Big Spring, Texas.

She was looking forward to the arrival of her newest grandbaby but sadly did not live long enough to hold it here on earth. She had six greatgranddaughters, Makenzie and Aubrey Troutz, Reese Perry, Avery Irvine, Shelby Callendar and one deceased greatgranddaughter, Brinlee Irvine. She is also survived by two brothers, Roger Cook of Hurst, Texas and Clinton Cook of California and two sisters, Avoughn Webb and Charlene Akiona, both of California one brotherinlaw, Jess Callendar and wife June Callendar of Odessa and sistersinlaw, Glenna Callendar and JoAnn Callendar, both of Odessa. She had many nieces and nephews, friends and coworkers who will miss her as well.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful doctors and hospital staff who have taken care of our mother over the past year. Dr. Life Bernard, Dr. Rao and a special thank you to Hospice House and their special love and attention to our mother and our family during the last days of her life. We would also like to thank her church family at First Church of God for all their thoughts and prayers for both our mother and our family during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Odessa.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010, at First Church of God with internment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.

Mother, sister, aunt, Grandma A. and GreatGrandma A., we will miss you every day and will look forward to being together with you once again in Heaven.
