Alice Elsie "May" (Miller) Thornhill, age 93, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Parks Retirement Village.
May was born November 24, 1923 to Oscar Deloplane and Celia Sears Miller in Neligh, Nebraska. She grew up in Roswell, NM and graduated from Roswell High School.
May married Robert A. (Bob) Thornhill on September 1, 1950. They moved to Odessa in 1953. She and Bob were charter members of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. She loved her church and was an active member throughout her life. May's gift to everyone that knew her was service. She was always willing to help anyone at any time. Whether it be to assist at the church office, Meals on Wheels, assist and greet new people or family members to Parks, help cut out scripture cards for Sunday school, or serve on the Resident's Council at Parks. She was always ready and willing.
May also worked at Hood Junior High School for the Food Service. She was known as the "Candy Lady".
She loved her family. She and Bob had three sons, Larry, Robert (Bobby), and Ronny. They were the love of her life. She welcomed each son's wife as if they were her own children. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
May was an excellent role model for all that came in contact with her. Her faith and family were the most important. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. "Her children arise and call her blessed: her husband also, and he praises her; many women do noble things, but you surpass them all… Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."vs. 28-29, 31.
May is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Robert A. (Bob) Thornhill, her parents and four siblings.
She is survived by her sons, Larry Thornhill and wife, Rhonda of Odessa, Bobby Thornhill and wife, Karen of Odessa and Ronny Thornhill and wife, Stacy of Hubert, NC; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
