Allen Bullard

Allen Aster Bullard, 86, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2009 in Big Spring.

He was born May 13, 1923 in Emory, Texas to Ewell and Flossie Bullard. His family moved to Odessa in 1932 where he was reared and educated. He is a 1942 graduate of Odessa High School. In October 1942, he enlisted in the US Army. He was sent to Europe in July 1944 and returned to the US in May 1946. He worked in the postal sector in the military and after his discharge he joined the US Postal Service in Odessa, where he worked until he retired in 1988. On December 30, 1979, he married Evelyn Hukill in Odessa. He continued to work at various self-employed jobs until health issues caused him to retire. He served as chaplain of the Odessa VFW. He enjoyed woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Darlene Bullard and Bobby Glenn Bullard; and his brothers Bobby Jack Bullard and Alvin Bullard.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn Bullard of Odessa; his step-son, Jimmy Joe Hukill of Odessa; his step-daughters, Judy Harrison of Odessa and Darlene Campbell of Dalhart; and his sister, Allene Evans and her husband Edwin of Graham.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-6 PM Friday, December 4, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with James Bishop of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Military honors with VFW Post 4372 will be held at the Chapel.
