Alva Dudney, Jr.

Alva Claude Dudney, Jr., age 88, passed away on September 29, 2018 in Odessa.

Funeral service for Alva Claude Dudney, Jr., will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 1:00 PM, at Second Baptist Church in Odessa. Burial with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Alva Claude Dudney, Jr, was born August 23, 1930, to Alva Claude Dudney and Louvenie Delanie McCoslin Dudney at a family home in Pampa, TX. As a child, his family followed the oil field and was part of the Mobile Oil Family. He graduated from Levelland High School. He was drafted into the Army in 1951 where he served during the Korean War in a MASH unit. He left the army in 1954 and returned to the oil fields of West Texas. He stayed in the Army reserves until 1960.

Claude married Delilah Carrol in 1951 and had two children. In the early 1960s, Claude settled in Odessa. He married Joyce Kathryn High in 1965 and became father to her three children then later had another child. In the 1980s, Claude started working for ECISD in the maintenance department where he retired in 2007 at the age of 76. Following retirement, he moved to Robert Lee, Texas. Claude served as a Deacon at Vine Baptist Church in Odessa.

Claude is survived by a brother, Wayne Dudney and his wife Jean of Mason, TX; a daughter, Diane Carrasco of Kingman, AZ.; a son, Jon Dudney and wife Debra of Arlington, TX; a daughter, Phyllis Eaton, of Brookshire, TX; a son, James Qualls of Maysvile, OK; and a daughter Lu Cleere and husband Roger of Odessa, TX.; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and many other children that spent time living in the Dudney household.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joyce, his brothers, Lynn and Glynn, a child, Dennise Southard, and two grandchildren, Jon Dudney, II and Shadow Southard.
