Alvaro Carrasco Garcia, age 67, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in Odessa, Texas.
He was born in Vado de Piedra, Chihuahua, Mexico on November 18, 1943. He loved nature and rocks, arrow heads and coin collecting. He also loved to go fishing with his son, deer hunting and hiking.
He attended Odessa College and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a minor in Spanish. He did some teaching before he went to work for AMOCO. He also worked in social services Catholic Charities, MHMR, and Clover House.
He served 6 years in the Navy and a year in the West Pacific Tonkin Gulf on the U.S.S. Bausell DD845. He assisted with various gunfire support operations in North and South Vietnam. He married Maria Elena Garcia in 1975 and recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary.
He has two beautiful granddaughters Alejandra and Marina Garcia, whom he enjoyed playing with. He also has a daughter mi Reyna Maritza Garcia of Odessa, TX and a handsome son Rene and beautiful daughter inlaw Sandra Garcia of Midland, TX . He is survived by his siblings Federico C. Our father was a caring, selfless person who never met a stranger and always thought of others. He believed there was good in everyone and truly paid it forward, he is an inspiration to our family and to everyone who knew him. Visitation with the family will be 67 PM Wednesday, March 2, 2011 with Rosary following at 7:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Michael Rodriguiz officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
