Alvin Gene Giesler 74 of Midland passed away at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 6, 1933 in Sweetwater TX to George Roy and Iva Galloway Giesler where he was reared and educated. He served in the United States Army from March 1952- March 1955. Alvin was stationed in Colorado and served as a ski instructor for the troops. He married Glenda Marie Giesler on December 24, 1955 in Abilene TX. The Gieslers moved to Kermit in 1960 and he joined the water department for the City of Kermit. He joined the City of Midland in the purchasing department in April 1985 and retired in May 1999. Mr. Giesler was a Baptist and enjoyed wood carving and water coloring.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Giesler, his mother, Iva Giesler, and siblings, Leroy Giesler, Nancy Giesler, Norris Giesler and Juanita Wray.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Marie Giesler of Midland, daughter, Cindy Giesler of Midland, son, Kerry Giesler of Odessa, daughter-in-law, Lyn Giesler of Odessa, grandchildren, Kelby and Kade Giesler of Odessa and sisters, Ola Swann and Doris Mahaffey.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, led by Rev. Terry Tamplen. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, February 29 at Sunset Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Midland.
