Aron Douglas Johnson of Gardendale passed away on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024, in Odessa, Texas, at Medical Center Hospital at the age of 76. Friends and family knew him as A-Doug, Doug, and Papa.
Doug was born in Ashdown, Arkansas on August 10th, 1947, to Myrtle and Jimmy Johnson. Doug and his two brothers and two sisters were raised on the south side of Odessa by a hard-working single mom who worked at the local Piccadilly Restaurant. As a teen, Doug worked at Piccadilly until he entered the service in 1968. Doug served as a helicopter mechanic and co-pilot during his time in the Army. Once released from service he continued to work as a mechanic and spent most of his life as a pump mechanic in oil fields all over Texas and many other states until his retirement.
Doug was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who spent countless hunting seasons with his friends and family on the deer lease in Robert Lee, TX.
In 1991, Doug met the love of his life, Becky Johnson. Becky had two grown sons and a 10-year-old daughter who Doug loved as his own. Whether he was teaching them how to shoot a bb gun, drive a car, light firecrackers in the middle of the road, cook his favorite meals, shoot rabbits with sling shots, or having an epic Nerf gun battle, times spent with his kids and grandkids were among the most cherished moments of his life.
Doug is survived by his wife of 30 years, Becky Johnson; children, Andy Blackburn (Becky), Burt Blackburn (Christy), and Amanda Lunson (Elliott); grandchildren, Austin, Dylan, Brooke, Daniel, Ryan and wife Deya, Trenton, and Adeline.
