Arthur Jerome Brownell, 75, passed from this life on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.
He was born October 25, 1937 in Utica, New York to the late Emerson Brownell and Natalie Wicks. Art reached the rank of Star Scout and in high school lettered in football, wrestling and National Honors Society. He married Janet Mae Faville in Sauquoit, New York on June 27, 1959 and together had two sons. At Cornell University, Art reached the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the ROTC, was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and received a Bachelor of Science degree.
He received a Masters degree from the University of North Dakota in 1965 and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Oregon in 1969. Later that year he and his family moved to Austin, Texas where he worked as a staff psychologist at the University of Texas Counseling Center for eleven years. After years of private practice as a psychologist, Art moved to Odessa, Texas where he met and married Donna Henderson in 1993. Art began teaching at Odessa College and retired in 2011.
Art is survived by his brother, Richard Brownell sister, Janice Elmer sons, Steven and Kevin Brownell grandsons, Cole, Reece and Trace Brownell and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in the chapel in Odessa, Texas with Terry Tumplin officiating. Burial services in Clinton, New York are pending.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hospice House in Odessa, Texas in his name.
