Arvel Thompson

November 23, 1920 — October 20, 2011

Arvel Lee AL Thompson age 90, my beloved husband, our father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend, was called home to be with our Lord on October 20, 2011. He was born November 23, 1920 to Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Thompson at Eldorado, Oklahoma. Arvel attended school at Lincoln and Cardell NYA in Oklahoma. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman SS2C at Norman, Oklahoma.

June 9, 1943 he married Willie Ruth Lindly in Norman, Oklahoma. He was shipped out to Honolulu, Hawaii where he served until he was honorably discharged November 21, 1945 as a First Class ASNR AMM 1C.

He farmed for eleven years, then in 1956 he moved to Leveland, Texas where he worked Bethlehem Steel at Sundown, Texas. On June 1, 1966, he took a job with Union Supply at Hobbs, New Mexico. Later they sold to U.G. I. Arvel retired January 1, 1986.

He lived in Hobbs for 37 years and was a member of First Baptist Church. Here Arvel served as deacon and Sunday School teacher of Adult 6 men class. Later he moved to Odessa, Texas in July of 2003.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters, a son, Gary and two granddaughters.

Arvel is survived by his wife of 68 years, Willie Ruth, a son, Larry Thompson of Odessa a daughter, Marilyn Thompson of Metairie, Louisiana grandson, Cody Thompson and wife Christy of Odessa great grandchildren, Ashtin, Brylie and Easten, all of Odessa and many nephews, nieces and friends.

He was interred at Prairie Haven Memorial Park Cemetery at Hobbs, New Mexico on October 21, 2011.

Memorial Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Parks Methodist Retirement Center, with Jimmy Braswell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Arvil may be made to your favorite charity or the building fund at Parks Methodist Retirement Center.
