Aubrey Jessie Collier went to his Heavenly Home, April 27, 2010.
He was born December 7, 1922 in Matador, Texas to Charlie Collier and Myrtle Teague Collier. He lived a full life of 87 years. He spent his childhood in Rochester, Texas. After graduating from High School he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force to serve his country which was in the midst of World War II. While in the Air Force he married his sweetheart from Knox City, Texas, Lois Janice Dodd. They were married 53 years until her death in 1997. They had three children, Patricia Janice, Kathryn Janet, and Danny Jessie Collier. The family moved to Odessa, Texas in 1955 and started the family business, Collier Rug Cleaning, which is still operating 55 years later, being run by his son, Danny Collier. He married Leta Weaver in 1999 moving to Childress, Texas a couple of years ago.
A.J. is survived by his wife, Leta Collier, of Childress his two children, Kathy and husband Bill Bowden and son Danny Collier of Odessa sister Loretta Marrow of The Woodlands, Texas seven grandchildren, Lori Cawley and husband Grant of Odessa, Julie King and husband Doug of McKinney, Eddie Joe Renbarger of Addison, Susan Proctor and husband Mark of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lisa Salada and husband Matt of Navarre, Florida, Patrick Chambers and wife Sarah of Corinth, Texas, Kristy Bowden and husband Koley of Boston, Massachusetts 13 great grandchildren several nieces and nephews and their children five stepsons, their wives and children.
A.J. was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Myrtle Collier of Rochester, Texas wife Lois J. Collier of Odessa daughter Patricia Collier Robinson of Odessa brothers, Val Collier of Midland, Eugene Collier of Rochester, Morgan Collier of Rochester and sister Charlene Mitchell of Rochester.
A.J. was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord. Going to church was important to him.
A.J. was a dedicated Golfer. He not only loved the game but was very good at it, winning several golf tournaments. He also played softball in his earlier years, winning in the World Fast Pitch Softball Tournament. He was an all state football player in high school. He jokingly would say give him any kind of ball and he could play it.
Visitation with the family will be 68 PM Friday, April 30, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, May 1, 2010 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Philip Skelton, of Mission Dorado Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
