Aurora Harris, 103, went to be with our Lord and savior on February 15, 2023. She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Aurora was a feisty, loving, and caring person who loved watching her cowboys play on Sunday afternoons and Monday nights. She never failed to compliment you on your attire saying that’s a pretty blouse or are those new shoes. She loved her family very much and doted on her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her cats.
During her lifetime Aurora saw many things. She went through the depression, World War II, Pearl Harbor, building of the atomic bomb, the bombing of Hiroshima, and the assassination of President Kennedy. She also accomplished many things such as helping establish the Casa Blanca Café, which was a family-owned business. She earned her private investigator license in 1969 so she could work alongside her husband. Aurora was also one of the first women to work as an interpreter for many lawyers in the West Texas area during the late 60’s and 70’s.
Aurora is preceded in death by her parents Chon and Natividad Rodriguez; her husband James Edward Harris Sr.; her son James Edward Harris Jr.; her brothers Gustavo, Rudolpho, Albert, Antonio, Carlos, Ralph, Jimmy, and Benjamin Rodriguez; her sisters Zenida Pineda, Elena Ruiz, Juanita Watley, and Marie Lopez.
Aurora is survived by her son Martelle Harris and wife Rita of Midland, TX; brother Ignacio Rodriguez and wife Ida of Big Spring, TX; sister Marcelina “Belia” Huante of Grand Prairie, TX; granddaughters Gabrielle Harris and husband Armando of Colorado Springs, CO, Hillary Harris of Odessa, TX, Alexandra Harris of Tulsa, OK; Grandson Hunter Harris and wife Diana of Tulsa, OK; 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
