Barbara Bunnell

Barbara Nell Jarrell-Bunnell, 91, of Odessa, passed away on October 9, 2024. 

Barbara was born in Mobeetie, Texas to William Edward (Bill) Trimble and Eula Eulene Fults-Trimble-Johnson on September 22, 1933. She grew up on the farm and attended school in Mobeetie. While she was only about five feet tall, she played basketball in her junior and senior years of high school. She was quick and aggressive and excelled at the sport due to ability to get under the taller forwards and steal the ball. 

She married Allen Earp Jarrell in 1953 in Big Spring, Texas. They soon moved to Odessa where she worked in the loan business. Allen died in 1970, and Barbara married Glyn Ray Bunnell in 1972. She and Glyn opened Modern Loan Service which she owned and operated until she retired in 2001. Barbara loved working in her yard and spending weekends at her late property in Colorado City. She was always busy and would jump right in to help anyone with any project they had going on. Barbara loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and Major League Baseball. For the last twelve years of her life, she suffered from Alzheimer's. Throughout it all, she always remained happy, spunky, and bossy. She never lost her ability to make her family, and caregivers laugh, and we were told often how delightful she was. 

Barbara is preceded in death by husbands Allen Jarrell and Glyn Bunnell, her parents Bil Trimble and Eula Trimble-Johnson, stepfather Jack Johnson, sister Billie Lou Watson, and brothers Horace Trimble and C.E. Trimble, and daughter in law Kay Jarrell.

She is survived by her daughter JoAnn Jarrell Patton and husband Bobby of Odessa, son Terry Allen Jarrell of Odessa, brother Cary Jack Johnson of Burnet, Texas, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be Monday, October 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 15 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Bro. Clydel Chapman of Northside Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. 

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's association. We want to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff of Buena Vida Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Interim Hospice Care for the excellent care given to our mom during her final days.
