Barry Hart

February 27, 1952 — February 12, 2016

Barry Hart, 63, of Odessa, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 12, 2016 in Odessa, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 pm, Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa. Burial to follow in the Monument Garden section at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Barry was born in Perryton, Texas on February 27, 1952, to Wilbert and Doris Hart. He was the younger brother to Alan and the older brother to Susan and Carol. He graduated from Monterey High School in Lubbock and then from Texas Tech University with an undergraduate degree in Political Science and the Texas Tech School of Law in 1977.

He had two daughters, Carrie and Kathryn. He married his best friend, Connie, on November 6, 1990, in Maui, Hawaii.

Barry practiced law in West Texas for over 30 years. He helped the workin' man get justice as often as the system would let him. He always fought for the underdog. He occasionally bowled in cowboy boots, cheered for the Dallas Cowboys, loved John Wayne, and played a mean game of dice.

Barry is preceded to God by his mother, Doris, sister, Carol, and father, Wilbert.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; daughters, Carrie and Kathryn; siblings, Alan and Susan; grandchildren, Jackson, Autumn, Andrea, Kayla, Ericka, Cameron, CJ, and Tristan; great-grandchildren, Emery and Carson.

While fierce in court, Barry was a gentle and indulgent grandfather. He delighted in making his grandchildren and great-grandchildren laugh. His dogs, Penny and ChiChi owned his lap.

Part of a close family, Barry is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Roland and Milton; sister-in-law, BeeGee; his nieces, Brandy, Christina, Maren, and Millicent; and his nephew, Christopher. He was great-uncle to Elaina, Nathan, Jacob, and Aaron. He was a father figure to his step-children, Shelly, Kelly, and Dawn as well as father-in-law to Greg, Jerry, Keith, and Lewis. He had a father figure and debate opponent in Boots, his father-in-law.

Barry was a member of the Permian Basin Trial Lawyers Association and the State Bar of Texas.

Pallbearers will be brother, Alan, brothers-in-law Roland and Milton, friends Lee and Tony, and grandson Cameron.

Barry's family would like to thank his friends, colleagues, and clients for their support.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
