Ben L. Dunn, age 85, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011 after a vehicle accident on Monday.
Ben was born October 22, 1925 to Ben and Ruth Dunn in Artesia, New Mexico. He lived the early years of his life in Pecos, Texas and was a graduate of Pecos High School, class of 43. He took great pride in playing for the Pecos Eagles Team 40 thru 43. Immediately after graduation Ben enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country in WWII until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Ben worked 35 years for Southwest Energy as a fuel purchaser and salesman. Upon retirement, he worked parttime for Pharmacy unlimited in Odessa, delivering medicine and giving instructions for usage to patients. Ben enjoyed being able to continue socializing and communicating with anyone and everyone. He had a kind, gentle, and compassionate spirit. Ben was a 32nd. Degree Mason and remained a member of the Pecos Lodge for over 50 years.
Ben was preceded in death by his daughter, Vonda Jo Dunn York of Snyder son, Rodney Green of Kilgore brother, Dr. John Paul Dunn of Richardson and Soninlaw, Kenneth Wilcox.
He is survived by his wife, Martha L. Dunn of Odessa, sons, J.R. Dunn and wife Kari of Mertzon, Texas, Bobby L. Dunn and wife Cheryl of Big Lake, Texas daughters, Janet Gail Dunn Wilcox of Muleshoe, Texas, Marlene Latimer and husband Lonny of Bellville, Texas daughterinlaw, Pam Green of Bastrop, Texas stepson, James Rollins and wife Sherry of Oklahoma sister, Jan Phillips and husband Jim of Odessa brother, Robert Dunn of Talpa, Texas fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas, 715 Columbus Ave., Waco, Texas, 76701, for Ben L. Dunn, Jr.
