Berry Walker Childs, age 85, passed away Friday, September 18, 2009, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Berry was born to Jesse and Mildred Childs on January 29, 1924 in Ingram, Texas. He served in the Air Force in Northern Italy during WW2 and worked for many years for Western Geographical, which took him to North Africa, Yemen, Bengazi, Australia and Alaska. After retiring from that company, he worked for the Texas Highway Department for 24 years, retiring in 1998.
Berry is survived by his wife, Tommie of Odessa; son, Gary and his wife Anne of North Richland Hills; daughter, Francine Soltani and husband Hossein, along with their children, Cynthia of Austin and Christopher of Dallas; two sisters, Arnell McMillan and husband David of Baton Rouge, La. and Kathryn Emerson of Bangs, Texas;
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jessie, Kenneth and Weldon.
His favorite pastime was golfing, hunting elk in Colorado and fishing anywhere.
Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Saturday morning, September 26, 2009 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jimmy Braswell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of a favorite charity.
