Bertha Jernigan

Bertha Lee Jernigan was born January 6, 1932 in Lott, Texas to Riley Rand Sr. and Easter MastersRand whom preceded her in death. She departed this life and received her call to Glory Wednesday, October 22, 2014.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 6:008:00 p.m. with a closed casket at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Bertha Lee Jernigan attended Blackshear High School in Odessa, Texas. She was a licensed cosmetologist in the State of Texas and retired in 1975. She loved the Lord with all her heart, mind and soul and needed to fellowship with other minded individuals. God led her to Saint James Baptist Church in 1944 where she was baptized under the pastorate of J. W. Williams. She was married in June 1948 to Johnny Mack Jernigan in which two children were born, Johnny Mack Jernigan and Veronica Jernigan who preceded her in death in 1988. She was an active participant at Saint James and was president of the entire Saint James Usher Board and treasurer of Missions.

Bertha Lee Jernigan temporarily relocated to Victoria, Texas with her Johnny Mack Jernigan when her health began to fail.
Adventurous and daring are two adjectives that described Bertha Lee Jernigans personality. She loved healthy challenges and was seldom shynever biting her tongue when it came to asking questions. She will be missed but forever remembered by those who knew and loved her.

She leaves to treasure her precious memories her son, Johnny Mack Jernigan III of Odessa, Texas her sisters Dorothy Moore of Clyde, Texas, Ruth Rheams of Odessa, Texas and brothers Riley Rand, Jr. of Odessa, Texas. Henry Rand of Odessa, Texas sisterinlaw Celestine Rand of Odessa, Texas and brotherinlaw, Albert Rheams two grandsons Jimmy and Jammal Simpson one great grandson Bentley Laamaj Simpson and a host of nieces and nephews.
