maternal grandmother, Elizabeth, wrote a poem for her. Your first milestone is reached today your baby life filled with tears and play but heart of my heart I love you so, my beautiful, brighteyed Bettie Jo. May life for thee always be bright may you shun the wrong and do the right may angels be with you wherever you go, to guard and protect
our Bettie Jo.

She graduated from Waco High School and received her BBA degree from Baylor
University, where she was one of the founding members of the PAL womens club.
After graduation, she began working at the Waco Army Air Base during World War II.
She became interested in flying, which led to flying lessons and earning her private pilots license. She then became a stewardess for American Airlines, based in Dallas.

On September 5, 1947, she married Dick Clark. They were blessed with two daughters,
Nita Beth and Bobbie Catherine Kay. In 1954 they moved to Odessa where they built
and operated fast food restaurants, including Dairy Queen and Leslies Fried Chicken. After Retirement, Bettie and Dick were able to travel widely with their Airstream travel
trailer, which led them to Scottsdale, Arizona, where they used to spend many of the winters. After her husbands passing in 1990, Bettie continued to spend the summer half of the year in Odessa and the winter half of the year in Arizona. In 2003 she moved permanently to Arizona.
