Betty Jo Golden Blanchard, who loved to be called “Mama” by her kids, “Betty” by her sons-in-law, and “Memaw” by her grandson, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the age of 99 years and seven months.
Betty was born in Nobility, TX on October 7, 1921 to Joseph Whitfield Golden and Artie Lee Arnwine Golden. She married Kenneth Eugene Blanchard on March 11, 1944 at Biggs Field in El Paso, TX.
Betty was an incredibly strong woman, and everything she did was done with grace and compassion. Mother to daughters Donna and Debbie, she raised her children with love and devotion in Odessa, TX with her husband, Kenneth.
Betty called Odessa home for 51 years, and she loved being a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed cooking for Kenneth and sewing for her daughters. For the past 15-1/2 years Betty made her home in Fredericksburg, TX.
She is survived by her daughters Donna Lapidus and husband Robert of Fredericksburg, TX; Debbie Laney and husband Warren of Plano, TX; and grandson Matthew Laney of Plano, TX. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Golden, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, TX at 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to First Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, TX or to Second Baptist Church, Odessa, TX.
