Betty Alice Fife passed away at her home in Goldsmith, on September 3, 2013.
The family will have visitation on Saturday, September 7, from 2:003:00 PM, with funeral services immediately following, at 3:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Betty was born on November 8, 1931, to Samuel and Bess Gunter in Iraan, TX. She married J.M. Fife on June 13, 1949. Betty and J.M. raised their family in Goldsmith, TX, and became an integral part of the community. Betty played the piano at the Goldsmith United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She also served as the city secretary of Goldsmith from 19661995.
Betty was an excellent cook and could easily feed a half dozen unexpected guests and was glad to do so. She was happy to put on a pot of coffee and whip up dessert for friends and family.
Betty loved her family dearly and was fiercely protective of them. She was affectionately known as Memaw not just to her own grandkids, but also to many others around town.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, J.M. Fife, and her two oldest sons, Craig Fife, and Sam Fife.
Betty is survived by her youngest son, Tom Fife and wife Melinda daughterinlaw Janie Fife grandchildren Leesa Thomas and husband, Mickey Janae Willhite and husband, Kevin Leigh Haas and husband, Shane Douglas Fife and wife, Stephanie and Daniel Fife and wife, Amanda. Also left to cherish her memory are 10 great grandchildren, and one greatgreat granddaughter, as well as many other close friends and family.
The Fife family would like to thank her caregivers, Gloria and Norma, for their kindness and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
