Betty Ann Harkrider left this earth peacefully on the morning of Friday, November 15, 2024, at the age of 82. She was welcomed into this world on Sunday, February 15, 1942, by Lowell Edgar and Obey Dean Murphy Keeton in Pampa, TX. Betty was the oldest and as some may say bossiest of her siblings.
Betty graduated from American High School in Frankford Germany in 1960 after her mother remarried to George Charbonneau and the family moved there.
Betty married Ronald William Harkrider on July 31, 1965, in Temple, TX. They were blessed with two children, Tamara Renee in 1969 and Ronald “Ronnie” William II in 1972. The family lived in Kentucky, Plano TX, and Lubbock TX before settling down in Odessa. Ron & Betty shared 58 years together before his sudden passing on February 28, 2024. The couple shared four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren together.
She worked for Ector County Independent School District for 30 years before retiring in January 2011. She worked in the cafeterias of Ross Elementary School, Hood Jr. High, Nimitz Jr. High and the ECISD Alternative Education Center. Betty has made many lifelong friendships throughout her many years of service in the school system.
Betty enjoyed painting ceramics with her sisters, making Sunday breakfasts for the family, the Permian Band, and as she was no longer able to get around comfortably, she loved being able to keep up with everyone’s lives on Facebook.
Betty is survived by her children, Tamara and CW Berryman of Edmond, OK and Ronnie and Debbie Harkrider of Odessa, TX; grandchildren, Amanda and Casey Drewry of Frisco, TX, Stephanie and Colby Henderson of Fulshear, TX, Ryan and Brayden Medina of Newalla, OK, and Hunter Harkrider of Odessa, TX; great-grandchildren, Kendall and Hudson Drewry, Ryan Henderson, Liam Thomas, and Elijah Medina; siblings, Tommy and Jeanette Keeton of Odessa, TX, Jack and Lynne Charbonneau of Hurst, TX, Bill Williams of Federalsburg, MD, Georgie and Gary Wells of Escondido, CA, Chris and Tim Easley of Odessa, TX and Ella and Cody Woodard of Odessa, TX. She also has multiple nieces, nephews and extended family and friends that meant the world to her.
When Betty had to say goodbye and travel home, she was welcomed by her husband, Ron; her parents, Lowell and Obey Dean; bonus dad, George; bonus mom, Bobbie Keeton; sisters, Nell Williams and Sandy Hawkins; brothers, Donald Charbonneau and George David Charbonneau; great granddaughter, Halle Drewry; and nephew, Tyler Keeton.
In her last months, Betty lived at Madison Medical Resort in Odessa. On behalf of her, the family would like to thank the staff at Madison for becoming her second family, stopping by saying hi, giving her a hug, and sharing their lives and stories with her. In lieu of flowers, Betty would like for snacks or sandwiches to be taken to the staff of Madison in her memory.
