Betty Nicholas

Betty Jo Nicholas, age 83, died Sunday, March 9, in Plano, Texas. She was born June 27, 1930 in Eastland, Texas, the daughter of Richard and Frances Brunette Rutherford.

Betty was a long time Odessa resident. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1946 and after graduation worked for the catalog order department at Sears Roebuck for several years. She later worked as a deputy tax assessor for the Ector County Tax Office for 27 years until her retirement. She was a member of Odessas First Baptist Church, the Odessa Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the American Business Women Association. Betty enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time doting on her children and grandchildren.

On July 4, 1948 she married Burl Nicholas of Odessa. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1999.

Survivors include one daughter, Darlyne Ervin and husband Andy of Andrews, Texas one son, Nick Nicholas and wife Mary Ann of Plano, Texas four grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bob Rutherford of Odessa, who died in 2001.
