Betty Norton

Betty Mae Norton passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 2nd in Odessa, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 15, 1925 on a farm in Monett, Missouri. Her parents were Flora Mae Etta McCormick McCracken and Charles McCracken.
Betty graduated high school in 1943 and attended Tulsa University majoring in business. During this time she was a receptionist at Shell Oil.
Betty married William E. Bill Norton on June 12, 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Together they moved to Odessa in 1948 and were blessed with three sons, Jimmy, John, and Sid.
Betty was a Christian wife, mother and homemaker first and foremost. She dedicated her life to God and her family. She was a long standing member of Wesley Bible Class First United Methodist Church, and had many cherished friendships among her church family.
In the late 1960s Betty and Bill opened Hodgepodge Antiques putting to use her wealth of knowledge in antiques. She was a sports enthusiast, one of Dallas Cowboys most loyal fans. Bridge was a favorite hobby which she mastered at an extremely high level. She and Bill enjoyed Bridge Club sponsored cruises and trips. Betty played endless hours of Bridge while Bill soaked up the sun on deck.
Betty was a precious storyteller. From her years growing up in the family bed and breakfast, the endless tales of being raised with three older brothers and ironically later raising her own three boys, to her most cherished stories of her and Bills storybook courtship and wedding. She brought her memories to life again every day.
Betty is survived by her devoted son Sid H. Norton and wife Sheri of Odessa, and also by her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren who held her close in their hearts. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill and her sons Jimmy and John, and also preceded by her brothers Charles, Bill, and Jack McCracken.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10am in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Terry Tamplen of First United Methodist Church officiating.
The Pallbearers will be, Gary Bishop, Randy Tucker, Curtis Roys, and Tony Fry.
The family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to all the kind, compassionate people that cared for Betty including staff of Emeritus, Sherwood Place, and Compass Hospice.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be presented to Casa, Ector County Foster Childrens Services or Rainbow Room for Foster Children.
