Betty Chaney Stewart, 87, of Odessa, passed away on March 8, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village in Odessa.
The family visitation will take place from 6 to 8 pm, Sunday, March 11, at the Sunset Memorial Chapel in Odessa. The graveside service will take place at 10 am, Monday, March 12, at the Fairview Cemetery in Midland, with Donita Lea officiating. Sunset Memorial will handle the arrangements.
Betty was born in Breckenridge, Texas, to Maude and Thomas Jackson Chaney on October 30, 1924. She was a proud Odessa High Broncho and graduated in 1941. She married H.T. Tommy Stewart on October 30, 1943, in Odessa. She was a homemaker and a meticulous seamstress. She sewed for the public for many years and handled alterations for BaLenes Dress Shop in Odessa. She loved creating stuffed animals for friends, neighbors and grandkids and made hundreds of her famous tooth fairies through the years.
Betty was a West Texas ranch woman who could do anything and make anything. She was resilient with strong convictions and instilled those traits in her family. She had an appreciation for the arts and was an environmentalist years before it was in vogue. Her greatest accomplishment was her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers Jack Junior Chaney and Billy Vance Chaney.
Betty is survived by daughter Judy Stephen of Santa Anna, Texas son Tom Stewart and wife Diane of Odessa and daughter Margie Kidd and husband Eddie of Odessa. She is also survived by five granddaughters Ginger Neihaus and husband Roger of Abilene Michele James and husband Jerry of Abilene Patsy Prater and husband Sean of Peoria, Arizona Jacqui Gore and husband Mark of Odessa and Katie Edwards and husband Michael of Odessa and two grandsons Ty Stewart and wife Stephanie of Odessa and Eli Kidd and wife Tasha of Odessa. She is also survived by 16 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Parks Methodist Retirement Village, the Alzheimers Association or the charity of your choice. The family of Betty Stewart wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Lei and the staff and caregivers at Parks Methodist Retirement Village and Compass Hospice for their love and care given during her eight year residency at Parks.
