Beulah Fae White Smith passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Parks Methodist Nursing Home, Odessa, Texas. Born September 27, 1925, in Eastland County, Texas, Fae was the only child of John F. and Vera Crawley White. She graduated from Eastland High School and attended North Texas State University.
Fae married Mike O. Smith Jr. on November 28, 1946 at First Methodist Church, Odessa. They met through their fathers who were both employees of Humble Pipeline Company while she was working there as a switchboard operator at the Odessa station. At that time, Mike was serving in the Army during World War II. They corresponded and became engaged following his return from Europe.
Following their marriage, Mike completed his petroleum engineering degree at Texas Tech and Fae worked as a secretary for Stanolind Oil Company in Lubbock in order to help put him through school.
Fae and Mike had two sons, Jon Michael, born in 1951 and Kirk Timothy, born in 1956. They lived in Odessa, Hobbs, and finally Midland, where they lived out their retirement.
Fae was a stay at home mom and stayed active with her family in Sunday School, Scouting and school activities. She was a member of Mothers Club in Odessa, PE Wives and Garden Club in Midland. Fae and Mike were also long time members of the Keystone Sunday School Class at St. Lukes United Methodist Church of Midland.
Fae had a special gift for not only remembering names but could quickly connect relationships from her past. As a result, she met few people who were strangers. Her nickname in high school was Static.
Fae is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Mike, who passed away August 10, 2012.
She is survived by her son Jon and his wife Becki of Odessa and her son Kirk and his wife Annette of Tomball, Texas. In addition, she is survived by grandchildren Mackenzie Smith, Michaele Smith, Jacob Rolls, Andrew Rolls, Macy Smith and Kirsten Smith and, great grandchildren Bryson Rolls and Chloe Rolls.
Services are set for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 27 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa. The family plans to receive visitors at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Reverend Kathryn Boren of St. Lukes United Methodist Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Lukes United Methodist Church, Midland.
