Billy Crane

Billy Don Crane, age 80, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.

Billy was born April 6, 1932 in Lamesa, Texas to R.C. Crane and Madgie Larkins Crane. He graduated from Roswell High School in New Mexico in 1949. He was active in track and football. He met his lifelong sweetheart Jeanne Albert at Roswell High and they married December 31, 1951.

Billy attended the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque to study Meteorology. He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He assisted with the weather data collection from nuclear testing in Eniwetok, Marshall Islands in 1954, and near Mercury, Nevada in 1955. Billy retired from the National Weather Service after 33 years in 1987.

Billy enjoyed swimming and surfing in his younger years. He liked to watch boxing, and informative and musical television programs. He was a member of a Barbershop singing group and loved music. He also traveled in his numerous RVs with his loving wife Jeanne all over the country.

Billy is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Crane son, Robert Crane mother, Madgie Crane father, R.C. Crane and nephew, Freddie Temme.

Billy is survived by his daughter, Karen and spouse Leland McCain sister, Wyvonne Temme niece, Sharon and spouse Ken Deter granddaughters, Marissa and spouse Josh King, and Michelle and spouse, Steven Strahan.

Memorial donations can be made to the Hospice of your choice.

The family gives special thanks to Home Hospice and Nurses Unlimited of Odessa, Texas for the excellent care and compassion they gave to Billy and his family.

Visitation with the family will be 68 PM Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Friday, May 25, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Home Hospice Chaplain Scott Owens officiating. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM MST Saturday, May 26, 2012 at South Park Cemetery in Roswell, New Mexico.
