Billy Mitchell

Billy Wayne Mitchell, of Odessa, passed away at his home, Saturday October 2, 2010 at the age of 81. Visitation will be Monday, October 4, 2010 from 5:00 P.M.7:00 P.M. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Clydell Chapman, of Northside Baptist Church Officiating and Chad Mitchell grandson, assisting from Mission of Abilene. Burial to follow with Military Honors at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

He was born February 5, 1929 to Morris Shepherd and Althea Mary Garrett Mitchell in Memphis, Texas. In 1949 Billy Wayne Mitchell enlisted in the army. Due to an almost life threatening injury, he received an honorable discharge in 1951. As a veteran of the Korean War, he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. He married Frances Louise Vaden on June 12, 1952 in Borger, Texas at the 10th Street Baptist Church. In 1957 he moved with his wife to Crane, Texas. He worked as a car salesman at Permian Chevrolet in Crane, Texas for 33 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles, and the VFW. Bill had a deep passion to see his three sons excel. He spent most of his summers coaching his sons baseball teams. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, parents Morris and Althea one brother, J.M. Mitchell, and sisterinlaw Lena.

He is survived by his three sons, Jeff Mitchell and wife Katta of Abilene, Texas, Dale Mitchell and wife Deena of Katy, Texas, Ricky Mitchell and wife Roxanna of Odessa, Texas. Seven Grandchildren, Vonda and husband Eddie Fulton of Odessa, Texas, Brandy and husband Danny Dugger of Gardendale, Texas, Casey and husband John Rogers of Midland, Texas, Lindsay Mitchell of Midland, Texas, Devan Mitchell of Katy, Chad and wife Ashley Mitchell of Abilene, Texas, and Tate Mitchell of Katy, Texas, Chad and wife Ashley Mitchell of Abilene, Texas, and Tate Mitchell of Katy, Texas. Nine Greatgrandchildren, Wyate Coston of Odessa, Texas, Dillon Dugger of Gardendale, Texas, Alexis Devore of Abilene, Texas, Sadie Mitchell of Abilene, Texas, Blaice Prescott of Midland, Texas, Gavin Coston of Odessa, Texas, Cadyn Rogers of Midland, Texas, Addison Rogers of Midland, Texas, Maddy Dugger of Gardendale, Texas, Two sisters, Pansy Hill of Abilene, Texas and Myra Boykin of Lubbock, Texas, Two brotherinlaws, David Vaden and wife Barbara of Dublin, Texas, Lawrence Vaden and wife Barbara of Borger, Texas, Four sisterinlaws, Maurine and husband D.E. Wilson of Lubbock, Texas. Cathy Garrett of Odessa, Texas, Barbara and husband Carey Roach of Abilene, Texas and Nancy Holmes of Midland, Texas and several nieces and nephews.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the American Cancer Society.
