Brian Dale Cooke died in his home in Odessa, Texas on July 20, 2017 after a valiant eight-month battle with painful and debilitating health issues arising from surgical complications.
He was born in Canoga Park, California on July 2, 1963.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Terry Lynn Cooke, of Odessa, Texas, his daughter, Cambrie Anne Holguin and her husband Dustin Jeffrey Holguin, of Midland, Texas, his son Keegan Dale Cooke and his wife Gloria Jean Victoria Cooke, of Lubbock, Texas, his father, Steven Cooke, of Odessa, Texas, his sister Trace Maltsberger and her husband Dean Maltsberger of Odessa, Texas, his mother-in-law Carole Ann Zea of Odessa, Texas, and his aunt, Mary Jane Smith, of Odessa, Texas, and his uncle, John Wayne Smith, of Odessa, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Diana May Cooke, of Odessa, Texas and his dear father-in-law, William Frederick Kerley and his wife Bonnie Kerley from Runaway Bay, Texas.
Brian was a graduate of Texas Tech University and earned his Master's degree in Special Education. Before becoming a Special Ed teacher for Midland ISD in 2005, he worked for seventeen years in Big Spring as a clinical social worker at the Big Spring State Hospital and at MHMR. Brian became a Christian at the age of eighteen while attending Antioch Christian Church in Odessa, Texas. He met his wife at Antioch in 1982 and they were married there in 1985. While living in Big Spring, Texas, he was active in his local church. After moving back to Odessa, Texas in 2005, he returned to Antioch and acted faithfully as a servant and elder there until his health would no longer permit him to serve in that great capacity.
He was a man known for his gentle and silent strength, his patience, and his determination to be a benefit to everyone in his presence. He was a man known for his warm quietness, careful diligence in his work, and his proclivity for serving his Lord by serving those around him. The weight of his loss is profound - the world is now a lesser place because of his absence.
The memorial service will be held at 3pm on July 27, 2017 at Antioch Christian Church which is located at 4040 Maple Ave in Odessa, Texas. Instead of flowers, and in honor of Brian's proclivity for service, the family requests that donations be made to Antioch Christian Church's general mission fund.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. To send family condolences please sign his guestbook at www.sunsetodessa.com.
