Bruce Muns

June 13, 1946 — February 28, 2016

Bruce Allen Muns, age 69, of Austin, TX, formerly of Odessa, TX went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 28, 2016 in Austin, TX.

Bruce was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Ralph Everett Muns and Helen Virginia Stowe Muns on June 13, 1946. His family moved to Odessa, in November 1947. Bruce attended San Jacinto, Bowie Jr. High and finishing his high school education at Shriner Military Institute in Kerrville, TX. He recently made a trip to Kerrville and enjoyed seeing the campus. At Shriner, Bruce played football and participated on the wrestling team. Upon graduating, he attended Odessa College and completed his degree at Texas Wesleyan University in Ft. Worth after serving two years in the United States Army in Germany.

Returning to Odessa, he was active in the First Presbyterian Church and was always available to assist with repairs. He always enjoyed the men's retreats to Mo Ranch. With passion, he made many crosses to commemorate the lives of others. He made a large cross to display outside his house at Easter. His playhouses were known for their strength and durability. As his parents became older, he was available to meet their needs. For many years, he and his dad delivered Meals on Wheels. They enjoyed arriving early and socializing until time to head out.

Bruce is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Gary Leonard.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Roger Edward and Mary Ethel Muns, Ronald James and Lee Muns, Nancy Helen Leonard and Susan Lee Muns and Phil Parker

Although, Bruce struggled with Asperger Autism, he is now perfectly healed and enjoying his eternal home in Heaven. Our family greatly appreciates the sweet caregivers at Silverado Senior Living in Austin who were kind and met his needs. Many were kind to him in Odessa as well. I must admit that I was proud of him, last Sunday when he shouted out a prayer in the dining room before he ate his meal. We could all emulate him in this area. The caregivers shared that this week Bruce had been telling everyone that he was leaving. Usually he would say, "I want to go back to Odessa." Not this week, just, "I'm leaving." He did leave for his eternal home, early Sunday morning in his sleep.

Graveside Services will be Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 pm, at the First Presbyterian Church. Reverend Cheryl Kincaid will conduct the services.
