Bruce Owens

Bruce Monroe Owens, 88, of Odessa, peacefully passed away at Medical Center Hospital on Wednesday, November 20, 2013.

He was born in Denton, Texas on December 19, 1924 to Ada Lee Stiles and Bruce M. Owens. He graduated from Hollis High School in 1943. He enlisted in the US Army in June 1943 and was assigned to the Air Corp. While in the Army Air Corp he was most proud of being an engine mechanic on the B29 Super Fortress. He was discharged from active duty in February 1946 at the rank of Sergeant. In August 1950 he was recalled to active duty in the newly created United States Air Force by President Truman during the Korean War to help bring the aircraft from WWII back into operational condition for the war. He was discharged in August 1951 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He returned to Oklahoma and met and later married Lorene Routh on September 5, 1954 in Socorro, New Mexico.

Mr. Owens worked for Lone Star Gas and El Paso Products as a plant operator and later retired in the late 1980s as a plant manager. He then owned and operated Owens Trading Post until 1993. Bruce was a member of Masonic Lodge 219 in Hollis, Oklahoma.
Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene in 2011 his parents, Bruce and Ada Owens his brother, Marvin Hack Owens and two sisters, Ruth Christian and Irene Cole. He is also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Shannon Fulcher.

He is survived by his son, Gary Owens and his wife Rebecca and their children, Selina, Samantha, Gary Jr., Sabrina and great granddaughter Lyrik his daughter, Linda Owens Given and her children, Erica, Brittany and great grandson Alex daughter, Judy Owens and her son Roger his cousin, A. J. Stiles and dear nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 25, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating, with Masonic Rite given in the chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors rendered.

Visitation with family and friends will be from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
