Carl Cornett

Carl Braxton Cornett, 88, of Odessa, passed away February 27, 2017, in Odessa.

Carl was born to George and Irma Cornett on February 1, 1929, in Rochester, Texas. He hauled cotton before entering in the Army where he served in Korea from 1950-1952. He was awarded the Army Occupational Medal (Japan), United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Metal with 1 bronze service star, Combat Infrantry Badge. On November 30, 1956 he married, the love of his life, Carrol, in Lamesa, Texas. Carl began his career as a pipeline welder. He was also a member of the Pipeliners Union 798. He recently received his 60 year pin. He worked all over the U.S., but always called Odessa home and retired as welder foreman for HB Zachary. After retirement Carl enjoyed rebuilding tractors. He also loved going to family reunions and spending time with his family, and Military Reunions of the 45th Infantry. Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be missed dearly.

Carl is preceded in death by his wife 60 years Carrol Cornett, and his 2 brothers Desmond "DC" Cornett, Horace "H.O." "Shorty" Cornett.

He is survived by his son Jay and wife Tonya Cornett of Gardendale, TX, daughter Donna and husband David Winkler of Menard, TX, brothers Glenn Cornett of Ft. Stockton, TX, F.N. Cornett of Farmington, NM, sisters Nola Howard of Lubbock, TX, Midge Hobbs of Clovis, NM, 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday March 2, 2017 from 4-6pm at Sunset Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held Friday March 3, 2017 at 10am at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Burial will follow.

Pallbearers will be Jason Winkler, Davy Winkler, David Craighead, Rusty Nail, Rowdy Winkler, and Dale Stennett. Honorary Pallbearer will be George Bissy.

The family would also like to acknowledge caregivers Gerri King, June Kimmell, Glenna Byrd, and George Bissy.
