Carl Benjamin Whatley passed away December 28, 2014 at Odessa
Regional Medical Center in Odessa, Texas.

Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on January 1, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 2, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Curtis Brewer of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Carl was born in Big Spring, Texas to Junious Benjamin Whatley and Eunice Faw Whatley on June 28, 1931. Carl and his family moved to Odessa in February of 1940. Carl graduated from Odessa High School in 1951. Carl served in the United States Army for 3 years and was a veteran of the Korea War where he served as a medical tech and was awarded the Medical Badge, Korean Service Medal w2 Bronze service stars and the United Nations service medal awards. Carl attended Odessa College for several years before beginning his professional career. He married Joyce Fisher Whatley on December 9, 1966 in Odessa, Texas. He worked as a general manager and salesman for several freight companies. He retired from Texas Mail Service in 1997. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Carl enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly in the mountains of Ruidoso, New Mexico. Carl was a big sports fan in general, particularly football and baseball, and followed the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers daily. Carl was usually found in the company of his family and friends and he was particularly fond of his coffee mornings with his friends at the Pancake Alley.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy King, and his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce two sons, Steven Whatley of Dallas, Texas, and Robert Whatley of Odessa daughter, Tina Waller and husband Brent Waller of Bay Town brothers, Kenneth Whatley of Palmer, Alaska and Richard Whatley of Wolfforth, Texas sisters, Helen Leathers and Jane Carter of Odessa, Texas grandchildren, Jeremiah and Lisa Johnson and Talmadge Waller of Baytown, Texas, Chad Whatley and wife Amba of Brisbain, Australia, and Bryon Whatley and wife Jennie of Prosper, Texas and 6 great grand children.

Memorials may be given to St. Judes Children Hospital, P O Box 50, Memphis TN, 83101.

The family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation and thanks to Estella Stevens for taking such good care of Carl, Dr. J.B. Naidu and his staff at the Naidu Clinic, the emergency room staff and personnel on the 4th and 5th floors at Odessa Regional Medical Center for always making sure Carl was comfortable and welltaken care of.
