Our precious mother, sister and grandmother, Carla Jo McMahon, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 17, 2013 in her home surrounded, by her family and best friend Santos Barriga.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, August 19 from 68 pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held the following morning, August 20 at 10:30am also at Sunset Memorial Gardens in the Praying Hands Section.
Carla was born in Coleman Texas on July 16, 1948. She worked most of her life as a hairdresser and touched many people with her unique talent, making all of her clients feel special.
Carla had an extraordinary ability to make people happy through her cooking. Everyone who knew her knew she was a heck of a cook. Her secret ingredient was a dash of chili powder in everything.
Carla joined the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous in January 1989 where she was an inspiration and mentor to many men and women as they began their journey in recovery. Carla loved baking pies and cakes and volunteering for the annual Alcothon every Christmas. She always made people feel welcomed and lived by the philosophy There is always room for one more.
Her brother, Mark Severne Riley, in June 1965 and her father Walter Severne Riley, Jr. in November 1982, preceded Carla in death.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son Mark Wayne McMahon, of Odessa her daughter and soninlaw, Jodie and Steve Rodgers of Odessa her brothers Guy Riley of Odessa and Lance and Dayna Riley of The Woodlands and her Mother Maxine Riley Stephens of Odessa. Carla will also be missed by her special loves: grandsons Tanner McMahon of North Carolina, Nicholas McMahon of Odessa and Jackson and Carson Rodgers of Odessa nephews Matthew Riley of San Francisco, Jeremy Riley of Odessa, nieces Morgan Dobson of The Woodlands and Lyndsi Riley of Abilene. And 2 special joys, her great nephew Miles Dobson and great niece Emmie Dobson of The Woodlands, who made Carla smile with the very mention of their names.
Memorials may be given to Hospice House Odessa at 516 N. Texas, Odessa, Texas 79761. The family wishes to thank Dr. PK Patel, and Dr. Karen Carr and the nurses in the Oncology wing at Midland Memorial Hospital who took wonderful care of her during her fight with breast cancer.
