Carroll Hancock

November 11, 1920 — October 22, 2010

Carroll Douglas Hancock was the DAD OF DADS. A Christian, a faithful husband for over 69 years, a terrific father that could do it all and fix it all Carroll Douglas Hancock joined his wife, Ethel and reunited with her and his Lord Jesus on October 22, 2010. He was born in the community of Derden, TX on November 11, 1920 to Carroll D. Hancock and Myrle L. Cooper. One of four brothers and two sisters, C.D., as the world knows him, worked hard in the cotton and hay fields around Hill County as a youth. He finished his high school years at Royse City High school and graduated valedictorian.

He met the love of his life, Ethel Lillian Helm, outside a movie theater and proclaimed to his friends that were with him at the time, thats the girl I am going to marry He did just that on February 15th, 1940 and would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year but she preceded him in passing on January 9th.

C.D. joined the Navy, May 31, 1943 soon after his marriage and served in World War II on the USS Montrose in the Philippines as a Quarter Master 2nd class. He was honorably discharged in January 25, 1946. C.D. joined Ethel in Baytown, TX, where he went to work for the Texas and New Orleans railroad for several years.

When two of his three sons, Don and David were born, he became the ultimate father. A few years later, Roger was born and C.D. had his hands full and more mouths to feed. He went to work for General Tire and Rubber Co. in Baytown in the warehouse shipping and receiving department. It was in Baytown where he taught these little guys to hunt and fish, fix up used bicycles, make go carts out of lawnmower motors, and build the family fishing boat from a Sears and Roebuck order kit. C.D. was promoted within the company and transferred to Odessa in 1959 and stayed there until his retirement in 1981.

His favorite hobbies were fishing, golfing and flying his little Cessna Cardinal 77 all over West Texas. He was a faithful Christian and member of Crescent Park Church of Christ since 1959 where he served as a Deacon and song leader. There was nothing that C.D. wouldnt do for family, friend or stranger. He was an influence in many lives that he met through the years.

C.D. is survived by three sons: Don Hancock and wife Judy of Grand Prairie, TX, David Hancock and wife Kay of Lavon, TX, and Roger Hancock and wife Marilyn of Odessa, TX five grandchildren: Jimmy Anderson of Albuquerque, N.M., Sharyn Hancock Vernon and husband Tracy Vernon of Nevada, TX, Steven Hancock and wife Jennifer Hancock of Lavon, TX, Melissa Hancock of Midland, TX and Jon Hancock of Odessa TX six great grandchildren: Jack Vernon, Morgan and Matthew Williams Justin, Ryan and Ethan Hancock one brother, Larry Hancock two sisters, Mary Turner and Doris Ruth Simmons and numerous nieces and nephews.
