Charles Chism

Charles H. Chism, age 85, passed quietly from this life March 9, 2017.

Charles entered this life July 16, 1931, in Monument, NM as the third child of Myrtle Lee Chism and Johnny Happle Chism.
When he was 7, his family moved to Claytonville, TX to farm. In the summer of 1950 he met his teenage sweetheart in Roby, TX, Rita Faye Palmer, whom he married June 23, 1951 in Longworth, TX.

After numerous work-related moves, he transferred to Odessa in 1965. He worked 34 years for SW Bell/AT&T, while loving, providing and caring for his growing family.
Along the way, he made wonderful, lifelong friends. On March 17, 2015, he married his friend and new love, Beulah Gentles.

Charles was a man of his word. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, singing, and playing his guitar, fixing things, building custom guns, making ammunition,
being with friends and family and shopping at garage sales. He loved finding bargains for friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Nelson, sister and brother-in-law Doshia and Dale Cave, wife Rita Faye Chism, and son Vernon Chism.

He is survived by his wife Beulah, daughter-in-law Roxanna Chism, daughter Fayrene Walters, son Stan and wife Ladonna, grandchildren Travis Walters, Traci Walters, Chad Chism and wife Stacy, Clay Chism, Caley Chism, John L. Algood, Jr., and Fiancé Mari Edwards, Adam Algood and wife Kelly, Tim Algood and wife Neely, Pennye and husband Jonathan Hartman, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Family will receive visitors Sunday, March 12, 2017, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be Monday, March 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Pentecostal Church, with Terry Pugh, officiating. Burial will be Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Hobbs, TX.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association or the NRA.
