Charles Howard Coffin, 86, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas. He was born on February 16, 1923 in El Paso, Texas to Howard and Fannie Coffin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother William Coffin of El Paso. He is survived by his wife Rudie of Odessa and one daughter Beth Brinker and her husband John of Gardendale. He is also survived by one grandson, Jared Brinker and wife Sara of Fort Worth, Texas and one granddaughter, Anne Brinker of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by his brother, James Coffin of Oregon.
He was in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and flew a B 26 Marauder Bomber during the war. He participated in the D-Day invasion. After the war he went to work in El Paso, for the El Paso Natural Gas Products Company and moved to Odessa in 1962 to be a project manager for the company as they built the refineries in Odessa. After retirement he spent his time fishing, landscape painting, hunting and building guns. His lifelong hobby of gun making became a business and he became a member of The American Custom Gunmaker Guild and Safari Club International. He and Rudie traveled to Europe to revisit places he had been during the war and they also made several trips to Africa to hunt.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Odessa.
Graveside services are scheduled for 5:00 PM Tuesday, March 10, 2009 in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Donnie Williams of First United Methodist Church officiating.
