Charles Vernon Jones

Our Dad, Charles Vernon ‘Charlie’ Jones passed away in Odessa, Texas on Sunday, July 16, 2023. He was 92 years old.

He was born in Idabel, Oklahoma, on May 21, 1931, to Dillard and Ruth O’dell Jones. He came from a family of farmers and had a great love of horses. Dad never missed a local rodeo. He graduated from Idabel High School in 1949 and went to Murray State College for 1 year. He married Peggy Hughbanks in 1950. They moved to Baytown Texas several months later where the first two of their 3 children, Dennis and Cindy, were born. He went to work for General Tire & Rubber Co. in 1953. In 1957 he was transferred to Odessa to help open the plant. Their son Cliff was born in 1960. Our dad accepted Christ as his personal Savior in the early 60’s. They attended and were active members of Temple Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and an integral part of the bus ministry.  He and Peggy divorced in 1972 and he married Arada Powders. He has 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 siblings, Stan, Jima, Harold; and son, Dennis; wife, Arada; and stepdaughter, Kathy.

He leaves behind two children, daughter, Cindy and husband Stephen; son, Cliff; and 3 stepchildren, Debbie and husband Joe, Steve and wife Ann, and Lori.

The visitation will be at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 19^th, 2023, from 6-8pm.

A Graveside Service will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Thursday, July 20^th, 2023, at 10:00 am.
