Charles Jones, Jr.

Surrounded by his family, Charles E. Jones, Jr. passed away on May 10, 2013 in Odessa, Texas.

Charles was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Charles and Seabie Jones on April 3, 1924. His family soon moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Charles entered the Army in June 1943 as a Surgical Technician and served honorably in the Pacific Theater until 1946.
After his discharge from the army, Charles returned home and attended the University of Tulsa. He completed his degree in Petroleum Engineering. On January 7, 1950, Charles married Marian Hughes. They moved to Odessa and had three daughters. Charles and Marian celebrated 59 years of marriage. He resided in Odessa until his death.
Charles began his 63 year career in the oil business working as a District Manager for Lucey Products in 1950. He worked in oil field equipment sales, geology, land, and oil and gas operations. As part of his equipment sales work, Charles traveled as one of the first passengers to fly into Alaska. He also traveled throughout the western United States.

In the mid 1960s Charles began work as an independent oilfield equipment salesman and transitioned into owning and operating his own oil and gas wells. Because of his extensive knowledge and expertise in the business, his professional advice was sought by numerous colleagues and friends. Charles was a mentor to many in the community.
His family was especially important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them both at home and in the mountains of Lake City, Colorado. Charles was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Odessa where he taught Sunday School and served as an Elder, Deacon, and Trustee. He also served on the Committee of Ministry for the Presbytery of Tres Rios. Charles was an active supporter of the arts in Odessa and the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Marian Hughes Jones, his soninlaw, Robert Lowe, his grandson, Keith Bingham, Jr., and his parents, Charles and Seabie Jones.
Charles is survived by his daughters Barbara, Margaret, and Catherine and their families. Charles was a wonderful father and grandfather to Barbara and Keith Bingham, David and Grant Bingham Margaret and Russell Wheatley, and Jonathan Lowe and Catherine and Gregg Miller, Geoffrey, Ian and Preston Miller. He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary Ann Smith, and his future granddaughterinlaw, Katy Ford.

Visitation with the family will be 68 PM Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 16, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of Odessa, with Walter Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Honorary pallbearers will be David and Grant Bingham, Jonathan Lowe, Geoffrey, Ian, and Preston Miller.
