Charles (Chuck) Lawson, age 88, of Odessa, TX, passed away on May 17, 2015 in Odessa.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Chuck was born to Merle and Charlcie Lawson on October 11, 1926 in Bush Knob, TX. He married Vona Grant on May 30, 1953 in Andrews, TX. He graduated from Throckmorton, TX. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944. He was on a LST for one of the first tests of the nuclear bombs on Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Theater of Operations in World War II. He worked for Shell Oil Company for 37 years. After he and Vona retired in 1987, they traveled through Europe and all 50 states. Chuck has a picture of every state capital building and a picture of every county court house in Texas.
Chuck loved music and amassed a collection of over 1600 albums, 1200 CD's and 45's. Every piece of music was cataloged in his meticulous handwriting. In his later 70's,
Chuck developed a new outlet in his woodworking shop. He made beautiful crosses. He donated his time and skills to anyone in need.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Charlcie; brothers, Norris Lawson, Truman Lawson, HA Lawson and his sister,Murlene Meredith.
He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Vona; daughter, Carol Vincent and husband Joe of Odessa; sons, Tom Lawson and wife Renee of Poway, CA, Ray Lawson and wife Natalie of Odessa; grandchildren, Rebecca Lawson, Erica King, Mollie Lawson, Grant Lawson; great grandchildren, Reagan King, Anthony Briswalter, Kaden King, Kendall McKenzie, Khloe McKenzie, Kylie McKenzie, Adelyn King and Orion Lawson.
