Charles Spears

Dr. Charles E. Spears, age 86, longtime resident of Odessa and most recently Lubbock, TX, passed away on July 21, 2016. Chuck, as he was known to his friends, was born October 23, 1929 in Paris, Texas, the youngest of five children, to Russell and Sadie Spears.

Texas was his homeland. Chuck and Jerry Ann Carter met at Abilene High School, graduated in 1947, and were married from 1948 until her death in 1982. During that time, they briefly left Texas so Chuck could pursue his dream of becoming a chiropractor, earning his Doctorate from Palmer School of Medicine in Iowa and his Bachelor of Science degree at Oklahoma University. They returned for his postgraduate work at Wesleyan College in Fort Worth.

Dr. Spears did his internship at Pruitt Chiropractic in Fort Worth, was on staff at Cleere Chiropractic Clinic in San Angelo, and in 1967 opened his own clinic in Odessa, where he practiced for 45 years.

At age 79 a wonderful woman, Emily Waldrip, came into his life…the answer to his prayers. They fell in love, were married, and began their life together in Lubbock in 2008. Thanks to Emily, he lived out his days blissfully happy and in love.

While in private practice he served several terms as President of the Texas Chiropractor Society and was President of the Blair Chiropractic Research Society. He received the 1971 Outstanding Chiropractor for the State of Texas Memorial Award and was included in Who's Who in Texas in 1974.

Chuck was an accomplished oil painter, a talented carpenter, and a devout Christian. Most importantly, Chuck was a loving father to his two children, Chad Spears, (wife Nancy Spears), Shannon Spears Stribling (late husband Tully Stribling), three grandchildren, Brandi Stribling of Odessa, Beau Stribling of Odessa and Sean Spears of Midland, as well as four great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Our Dad was wonderful, kind, smart, funny, honorable, happy and just incredible to be around. We will miss him terribly.

Services will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Curtis Brewer officiating, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas.
