Charles Snelling White, 96, of Odessa, TX, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Watkins Logan Texas State Veterans Home in Tyler, TX.
Visitation will be 5:007:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013 in the Sunset Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Harold Lenfestey of Resurrection United Methodist Church officiating. Masonic Rites and burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Charles Snelling White was born in Iowa Park, TX to Charles Clyde White and Esther Camille Wilfong White on September 20, 1917. He attended school in Wichita Falls, Texas. He married Marcella Aidelade Dulaney on February 28, 1942 in Walters, Oklahoma. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School and the US Army Air Corps Flight School. He studied at Harden Simmons University and Midwestern University. He worked as District Sales Manager for Ideco Corporation for 10 years prior to starting Engineering and Mechanical Service and Supply in 1965, a business he owned and operated for more than 40 years.
Charles White was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps. He was awarded the EuropeanAfricanMiddle Eastern Campaign Medal with six Service Stars for the Southern France, Normandy, RomeArno, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. He participated in DDay and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded one service stripe, three overseas service bars, the Distinguished Unit Badge and a Good Conduct Medal. He was awarded three Bronze Stars.
In Odessa Charles White was a member of the Andy Vaughn Masonic Lodge. He served as President of the Texas Thoroughbred Breeders Association, a high point in his lifelong passion for thoroughbred horses. He was named Veteran of the year by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 2012. Charles was a member of Resurrection United Methodist Church.
Charles White was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Harold J. White, his beloved wife, Marcella Dulaney White of 53 years, and his soninlaw, William Mac Gann.
Charles White is survived by his two daughters, Marcy Kay White Kuser and her husband Milton Kuser, and Elizabeth Ann White Gann three grandchildren, Christina Coursey Westgate and her husband Jeff Westgate, Lt. Cmdr. Charles Coursey and his wife Dr. Emily Coursey and Lauren Rogers Neumann and her husband Chris Neumann and four great grandchildren, Charles Coursey, Thomas Coursey, Sam Coursey and Savanna Elizabeth Neumann.
Pallbearers will be Milton Kuser, Lt. Cmdr. Charles Coursey, Carl Dulaney, Darrell Berlin, Dr. Tom Elrod, and his lifelong friend Sam Whitlock.
