Charley Wayne Pool, 83 of Odessa Texas passed away Feb. 13, 2023.
Charley was born in Olton Texas on October 26, 1939, to Edgar and Zula Pool. He attended Olton High School and then joined the United States Army where he proudly served 4 years. He was stationed in various places such as South Korea where he served as a Military police officer. When stationed in Frankfurt, Germany he met the love of his life, Gisela Spath and were married in Germany. When he left military service he joined the Odessa Police Department where he served his community for 4 years. Charley and Gisela have been married for 61 years.
Charley and Gisela had 3 children: Annette Pool Minnerly, David Pool and Karen Pool Dickson.
Charley was a hard worker and taught his children the value of hard work and being on time. He often said if you’re on time, you’re late. He worked at Odessa Natural Gas plant for over 20 years. He then was an independent welder for many years before going to El Paso Natural Gas where he retired in 2004. It didn’t take long for him to become bored with being retired and got a part time job as a courier to fill some of his time. Eventually Gisela got him to move to the mountain village of Cloudcroft New Mexico full time, where he finally got used to the idea of taking it easy. They would often come back to Odessa to visit with some of their grandkids and great grandkids. It was on one of these trips that Charley had a stroke and broke a hip then had to reside at Madison Medical Resort where he stayed until his death.
Charley was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife Gisela Pool. A sister Edna Jackson and one brother Bobby Pool. His three children Annette Minnerly and partner Larry Linthicum, David Pool and his wife Sharon and Karen Dickson and her husband Richard. He has 6 grandchildren: Brandon Pool, Jessica Coy, Brittni Mesa, Kellie Snow, Courtney Pool, and Kristen Davidson and 18 great grandchildren.
