Charlotte Hanson returned home to the Lord on Sunday, March 5, 2023, after a lengthy battle with cancer. In her journey home, she was surrounded with love and care by family and close friends.
Charlotte was born August 6, 1950, to Ivan and Fay Shifflet. She graduated from Permian High School in 1969. On August 27, 1971, Charlotte married the love of her life, Gary Hanson. Together, they built, and left, their three children an amazing foundation of love, strength, and family that carries on today. Those that know her children, see the love from Gary and Charlotte radiate in them.
If you knew Charlotte, you knew love. She was warm, unconditional, had a calming nature that always made you feel safe, and taught her family how to love through her actions. A few words that immediately remind you of Charlotte are precious, home, dear, loved, hilarious, amazing, kind, unconditional, and treasured. She had a special relationship with so many and always made each person feel as though they were special to her. She had a servant and a mother’s heart with her joy coming from caring for her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Charlotte had many different names of endearment she was given over the years: Chocolate, Chuck, Char, friend, Aunt…. but her most treasured were Mom and Mammie.
In 2019, Charlotte retired from Nurses Unlimited. Charlotte was a woman of faith—during her retirement years, every weekday morning you would find her watching a Christian prayer program and many times she was on the phone, holding to add a loved one to the prayer list. Inspired by her brother Gary and dear friend Amy, she also took up gardening. When the weather was nice, one of her favorite past times was sitting on her back porch enjoying her plants.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Fay Shifflet; husband, Gary Hanson; sister, Retha Armstrong; brothers, Ray Shifflet and Gary Shifflet.
Charlotte leaves a wonderful legacy of family behind, three children, daughter, Amy Williamson and husband Mark, son, Scott Hanson and wife Heather, and son, G.W. Hanson and wife Kessley, all of Odessa, Texas; six grandchildren, Darian Reed, Justin Williamson and wife Callie, Daylan Reed, Jami Williamson and fiancé Josh Taylor, Harley Hanson, and Bryann Hanson; seven great grandchildren, Hunter Commers, Jaxson Williamson, Blakeli Taylor, Nella Reed, Scarlett Taylor, Rayden Lewis, and Charlotte Williamson; precious and dear friend, Amy Buchanan, and companion, James Spray; brother, Gene & Pat Shifflet of Houston, Texas: sister-in-law, Helen Shifflet of Hurst, Texas; and many nieces and nephews she held close to her heart.
She was a pillar in our lives that can never be replaced. She will be missed enormously by her family and friends, but her legacy will carry on in the beautiful life and family she and Gary created.
She fought the good fight and is restored and resting with our heavenly Father.
“I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Pallbearers are Mark Williamson, Scott Hanson, G.W. Hanson, Darian Reed, Daylan Reed, and Justin Williamson. Honorary Pallbearers are James Spray, Kyle Shifflet, Cory Armstrong, and Josh Taylor.
