Christina Chris Griffin, age 85, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Hospice House in Odessa.
She was born October 24, 1926 in Wister, Oklahoma. She married Riley Griffin on January 28, 1950, in Perryton, Texas.
Chris graduated from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma, with her degree in Pharmacy, and was licensed to practice in the state of Oklahoma. When she received her Texas license in 1949, she became one of the first female pharmacists in the state of Texas. She was the only female pharmacist in Odessa when she and Riley moved here in 1954. She continued practicing until October 31, 2010, and at the time of her retirement was the oldest practicing licensed female pharmacist in the state of Texas.
Chris was a member of First Baptist Church of Odessa for 57 years. She was an active member of the Odessa Downtown Lions Club, as well as the Odessa Downtown Lioness Club, and was a Texas Lions Century Club Keyholder.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley Griffin, and is survived by her son, Russell Griffin of Dallas daughter, Rhonda Griffin Sherwood of Richardson one grandchild, Elizabeth Sherwood Bigley of North Zulch and two great grandchildren, Samantha Lynn Bigley and Laura Mae Bigley, both of North Zulch. Other survivors include daughterinlaw, Ann Griffin of Dallas soninlaw, Mark Sherwood of Richardson grandsoninlaw, Andrew Bigley of North Zulch numerous loving nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Spike.
A family visitation will be 68 PM Friday, November 11, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with Curtis Brewer officiating.
The family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Odessa Music Ministry, the Texas Lions Camp for Crippled Children or the Hospice House Foundation in Odessa.
