During the cool mid-morning hours of March 20th, Clifford Neal Orr passed peacefully and quietly from this life at the age of 79, surrounded by family members. Clifford's residence had been at the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring, Tx.
Funeral services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa, Tx, on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 1:00 pm with Lynn Money officiating
Clifford was born in Amarillo, TX to R.D. and Emma Orr on October 21, 1935 and was the 5th of their 8 children (5 brothers and 3 sisters). During his early life he helped tend the family farm of which he had many fond memories. After turning 18, Cliff joined the Air Force and was assigned to the 771st AC&W Squadron and rose to the rank of Staff Sargent. During his service he was awarded the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force in July of 1958 he found his way to good ol' West Texas and began to work in the oil fields and eventually landed a job with the General Tire Rubber Plant in Odessa, TX. It was here he met and married his wife of 46 years Linda Carolyn Bilbrey, who became Mrs. Orr and together they raised 2 sons and 1 daughter, a number of stray dogs, and routinely entertained numerous neighbor kids.
After working for General Tire for 17 years, Cliff started his own construction contractor business called "Big O Construction". For some 3 decades, Clifford poured concrete slabs throughout Texas, New Mexico and even a couple in Wyoming. It was during this time that Cliff became known mostly as "Big Dad" to all that knew him.
Clifford was a wonderful husband and father, very dedicated to his family and you couldn't have asked for a better friend, especially in times of need. Big Dad was always ready to help anyone, no matter the circumstance. Love and devotion to God and his family and friends were truly the guiding principles of his life. He will be sorely missed.
Clifford is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Orr, son, Blane Orr and sister, Margie Branton
Clifford leaves behind a son, Eric Orr and his wife Kassie, daughter, Sabrina Davis and her husband Jeff, brothers, James (Bud) Orr, Wayne Orr, David Orr, and Dale Orr, sisters, Ruth Swann, Linda Wells, 4 grandchildren, Chance Orr, Caleb Orr, Misty Orr, Amanda Orr, 4 great-grandchildren, Tristan Niles, Aaron Niles, Abigail Gonzales, Lilliana Saucedo along with a host of nieces and nephews.
