Connie Smith, 82, of Odessa Texas passed away Monday, February 1, 2011 in Monahans, Texas.
Services will be at 11:00AM Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa with Owen Sharp officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM prior to her service.
Connie was the loving wife of Shirreld Lee Buck Smith who proceded her in death after 48 years of marriage. She had a sister and brother that she adored.
Connie was born June 13, 1928 in Burr Valley, Oklahoma to Millard Fillmore Holcomb and Bertha Francis Burr Holcomb. She was raised on various ranches in Oklahoma, Kansas, and New Mexico. She attended Business College in Lubbock, Texas where she met the love of her life, Buck. She later attended nursing school at Odessa College. She was an LVN and during her nursing career she was Director of Nurses at Deerings West Nursing Home. She was a loving and dedicated nurse and encouraged those under her directions to strive for excellence in the nursing profession.
Connie was a member of Crescent Park Baptist Church and she was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 447. After her retirement from nursing, Connie enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and she was always ready to share a cup of coffee with her many cherished friends.
Her memory will be carried forward by her adoring children, daughters Paula Wilson of Ballinger, Tx, Gail Hurst and husband Gary of McGregor, Texas, and son Joe Thad Toby Smith of Odessa, Tx. Memories of her life will be passed on to her grandchildren Holly Bennett and husband Doug of Hewitt, Tx , Heather Strahan and husband Matt of Woodway, Tx, Klarissa Johnston and husband Scott of Vanderpool , Tx, Krystal Peter and husband Orion of Odessa,Tx and Stanley Ray Wilson and wife Stephanie of Dodge City , Kansas she had 8 great grandchildren and many neices and nephews that she loved deeply. Connie was much more than a mother and a grandmother to her family, she was a friend and that friendship will be truly missed.
The family would like to express gratitude to the nurses and staff of Monahans Managed Care of Monahans, Tx, and to the nurses and staff of Compass Hospice of Odessa, TX for the loving care given to our mother during her illness.
A very special thank you to Betty Turner who was with mother when she passed away. We will forever be grateful for your friendship and help during this difficult time.
