Daniel Schneider

November 5, 1928 — May 26, 2012

Daniel Schneider, age 83 of Odessa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 26, 2012 in Odessa.

He was born November 5, 1928 at Orin, North Dakota, the 10th and last child of Ignatz and Barbara Schneider. He graduated from Balta High School in Balta, North Dakota in 1946. Following that, he went to Minnesota and worked for a year before joining the U.S. Armed Forces. He was discharged, but remained in the inactive reserves until he was called back in during the Korean conflict and spent two years in Korea. He was honorably discharged in December of 1951.

In January of 1953, he married the love of his life, Luella Hagen. The couple made their home in St. Paul, MN for the next seven years. For two years Daniel worked nights as a machinist in Gandy Mfg. and went to St. Paul Vocational School in the daytime where he learned the tool and die trade. After completing the schooling he went to work for World Tool in Minneapolis and the couple purchased a Tastee Freeze store in which he actively participated while holding down his fulltime day job.

During this sevenyear period, six months was spent in Issaquah, Washington where he was employed by Boeing in Seattle as a tool and die maker. Upon his return to Minneapolis he worked at Northern Ordinance. Wishing to raise his family in a smalltown atmosphere he hired in to Holly now Imperial Sugar Company where he spent the next 33 years working his way up to Maintenance Manager Eastern Division. He began this journey in Worland, WY and was relocated six times by the company including their plants in Hardin, MT, Brawley, CA, Tracy, CA, and finally in the home office located in Colorado Springs, CO. Meanwhile, he purchased his own machine shop equipment and did outside work for various companies and Holly was good enough to move this equipment along with household furnishings from place to place for him. Also at the last stint in Worland he and son Craig purchased a motorcycle sales and repair including Trailways Bus depot which they and their wives managed as both he and his son held down fulltime jobs.

After his retirement in 1992, he moved to Riverton, WY. There he ran his machine shop wherein he manufactured a mud pump which set his son Brad up in the mud pumping business in Colorado Springs.

He loved motorcycling, snowmobiling and driving his motor home. He made two trips to Alaska and traveled the southwest nearly every winter during the 16 years spent in Riverton. When he became unable to continue this practice due to advanced Parkinsons Disease he moved to Odessa, TX to be near family. This is where he lived out his declining years.

He was predeceased by his parents, seven brothers and sisters and one son, Brian Joseph.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years daughter, Susan Alston son, Craig Schneider daughter, Brenda Harvard and son Bradley Schneider seven grandchildren and three great grands.

No services are scheduled for here. A funeral mass is scheduled in Worland, Wyoming, and he will be laid to rest next to his son, Brian Joseph in Riverview Memorial Gardens.

Memorial in his name may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 3612 22nd Street, Suite 300, Lubbock, Texas, 79410.
