David Butcher

David Earl Butcher, age 74, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013 at home in Odessa.

He was born August 26, 1939 in Eldorado, Arkansas to late William Henry Butcher and late Fannie Rawlins Butcher. He married Veletta Ann Fussell on June 1, 1964 in Pampa, Texas. David grew up in Pampa, Texas and graduated from Pampa High School.

David worked hard all his life, starting out as a paperboy in Pampa, Texas at eleven years old until he graduated High School. He attended Frank Phillips Jr. College in Borger, Texas and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts from West Texas College in Canyon, Texas. Davids talent was with wood working and after graduating college he taught at Harlandale Jr. High in San Antonio, Texas for three years. He and Veletta moved to Odessa, Texas and he taught thirty years in Midland, Texas. After retiring from Midland, he returned to teaching in Hobbs, NM for five years. After retiring from Hobbs, he taught home school drafting three years in Odessa, Texas.

David was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Odessa, Texas. During the summer months he gave his time to Tupelo Childrens Mansion in Tupelo, MS. His mother had been an orphan and so he had a tender heart for the children at the home. He was a skilled craftsman in wood and cabinet making and used those skills to bless the childrens home as well as several churches. He also had a cabinet business aside from teaching. His hearts desire was to help others.

Survived by his wife of fifty years, Veletta Butcher of Odessa a sister, Faye Nusz of Elk City, OK and a brother Fred Butcher and wife Connie of Moore, OK sistersinlaw, Cathy Dreiss of Kerrville, TX and Fredda Tabor and husband Charles of Henryetta, OK brothersinlaw, Lyle Fussell and wife, Tina of Panhandle, TX, Jeff Fussell and wife, Lynn of Sugar Land, TX and a whole host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services are planned for 2:00 pm Saturday, October 12, 2013 at First United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Terry Pugh and Rev. Allen Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Randy Golightly, Cody Bridges, Andrew Harris, Greg Leyva, Obed Ramon, Jeff Fussell, Lyle Fussell, and Ed Jezisek. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Parrish and Charles Chism.
